SUMMARY
As a student in Oxford, OH I spent a lot of time visiting different cafes and restaurants in the area. Over that time I noticed that there aren’t many bakeries and I decided to design my own. Before I started to design this new bakery, I chose to create a bakery that sold European Pastries with an American twist. Miami University is known for its international study abroad program and I thought this would be fitting given that reputation. Thus, The Last Bite: European Patisserie was born.
competitive audit
To start, I did a competitive audit of all the bakeries and/or cafe's in Oxford to compare what they sold, their marketing presence, interior and exterior design and their branding. From this research I found a few trends and declared my goals for this project:
consistent branding through physical and online content
Holistic view of the space, UX, UI, branding, all touch points
Accessibility physically and visually
PROCESS
To begin, I illustrated a variety of different pastries that could be used for marketing and other materials within the bakery. This was also the start of the logo design. I used the croissant in the logo and as a general mark for the bakery.
After designing a responsive logo using my illustrations, I created a mood board and branding board, before starting implementing the branding into various applications
I applied the logo and new bakery brand onto multiple mockups including a pastry bag, pastry box, apron, coffee cup, window signage and more.
Because of the fact that I wanted to create a consistent brand throughout all touchpoints, I thought about what the inside of the bakery would look like and created these mockups that allow you to see how the color palette and branding will be implemented throughout, in a subtle way.
In my competitive audit I found that bakeries in the area don't have an online presence, and if they do, it's very limited. Therefore, I designed a web page and ads that would be shown on local Instagram feeds or other social media.
